Semmelweis University's Centre for Translational Medicine proudly recognizes the exceptional achievements of its PhD students. In July, Andrea Tóth-Mészáros was named PhD Student of the Month, followed by Eszter Szalai in June. These remarkable students exemplify the program's excellence.

Andrea Tóth-Mészáros shared her motivations for joining the SU TM program, her secrets to success, and her plans for the future in a video interview.

Eszter Szalai, recognized in June, responded in writing to the same questions, offering her insights into the program.

What motivated you to enter the SU TM program?
I participated in a video meeting where Prof. Hegyi introduced this program for dentists. It was compelling; I thought this would be the fastest way to get a Ph.D.

Please share your secrets with us; how did you win this prize?
Firstly, it was a teamwork. I could not have won without my supervisors (Beáta Kerémi, Zsolt Lohinai), SMA (Brigitta Teutsch), statistician (Péter Hársfalvi), project students (Adél Galvács, Viktória Babay), and ethical coordinator (Dominika TótH). Secondly, it was a noticeable difference in my dedicated time. I want to finish this project by the end of the summer.

How do you plan your performance for the next months?
I want to write my Ph.D. thesis while we await ethical approval.

What are your experiences regarding lectures and group meetings?
We have learned a lot over the past two years; we have met many great people in the lectures, group meetings, and progress reports. I remember perfecting my second idea after hearing the progress reports from other students.

Based on your experiences, would you recommend this program to those considering participating in a doctorate course?
Yes, of course. It was my best decision in the last few years. It gave me much more than I expected.

Both students' journeys and accomplishments showcase the program's commitment to fostering outstanding talent in the field of translational medicine. Their experiences provide compelling reasons for prospective doctoral candidates to consider Semmelweis University's Translational Medicine program.
