GIB Registry

Gastroenterology

Gastrointestinal bleeding is the most common gastroenterological emergency with a reported mortality of 10% and requires a professional hospital background to treat. There is a lack of information regarding the epidemiology, morbidity and mortality of this condition in Hungary. Collecting this data and drawing the necessary conclusions could improve the quality of health care.

Goals of the study:

1. Prospective data collection regarding risk factors, epidemiological and geographical characteristics of patients with gastrointestinal bleeding.

2. Documenting the treatment modalities received by patients, noting the outcomes and complications of each.

3. Conducting long term follow-up, examining the effectiveness of the applied treatment and its influence on the quality of life.

4. Multiple Hungarian and foreign institutions can join the registry. This collaboration may serve as a basis to start international, multicentre, randomized, controlled trials in the future.
