IBD Regsitry
Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, which belong to the group of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), are chronic, relapsing, non-specific inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal system.
The incidence and prevalence of the disease varies by geographic region and ethnic group, and it has shown an increasing trend in recent decades. Various environmental as well as host factors (genetic, epithelial, immune mechanisms and non-immune factors) play a role in the development of IBD. Symptoms can be extremely varied, and the diagnosis is made based on the combined evaluation of the clinical picture, laboratory, radiological and endoscopic examinations, as well as histopathological results. Since the exact root cause of the disease is unknown, the current therapeutic options are largely empirical, mainly modulating the effects of the intestinal immune system.
Timely recognition and adequate treatment of the disease prevents the development of many complications and surgical interventions.
We are planning to create a national and international web-based database (IBD registry) to record the data of patients diagnosed with and treated for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In the cases of newly diagnosed patients, their data is collected prospectively, while in the cases of patients with older diagnoses, the data can also be uploaded retrospectively, where their future follow-ups will be done prospectively. Patient interviews, detailed anamneses, received drug therapies, and the results of previous tests are all recorded on the clinical research form as shown in the appendix. The recording of patient data in the registry does not affect the patient's previous drug treatment, and the patient will not receive experimental drugs during the study. Serum, whole EDTA blood, stool and urine samples from the patients who enter the registry are stored for further and future basic research purposes.
