NASH/NAFLD Registry

NASH/NAFLD Registry

Gastroenterology

The causes of NAFLD are unknown, but are probably due to different reasons, from inherited characteristics, environmental causes to personal lifestyle. NAFLD/NASH are associated with metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes and insulin resistance. Some reasons may increase the chance of developing NAFLD while other reasons may decrease the chance of developing NASH.  The factors that determine whether a patient progresses from NAFLD to more severe liver disease NASH are unknown.

The purpose of the NAFLD/NASH Registry is to better understand nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) by following biopsy proven patients with NAFLD or NASH. The registry is to collect demographic and clinical data on patients being treated for NAFLD/NASH and to determine the factors responsible for the disease progression and to evalutae the effectivity of different treatment strategies. Data of other diseases associted with NASH (such as cardiovacular, renovascular, tumors) will be also collected.

The NASH Registry will recruit 300 adult participants known to have NAFLD or NASH.  Data entered into the registry will include patient demography, anthropometry, nutritional assesment, medications, blood work, liver biopsy results, elastography results, disease categorization, co-morbidities. Only data from patients regular clinic visits will be used for entry into the registry.  The expected time period for multicentric prospective data collection is from 01/06/2017 to 31/12/2022.

The NASH Registry may help to determine the factors affecting the progression of the liver disease as well as evaluate the success of different treatment strategies.
