Their Ph.D. students are making great progress in their research in different fields of dentistry, and the DMD-PhD students of the group are also making excellent progress with their projects. The first publications are already in the pipeline and are set to be published in renowned journals. In May, the Dentistry Group (Year 1) was named Group of the Month.
The Dentistry Group (Year 1) has seventeen members, thirteen of whom started the Ph.D. program as dentists, while four joined the training as dentistry students. “Our DMD-PhD students obtained their dental degrees this academic year, and their projects are at a phase where they are expected to submit their first articles to scientific journals in July this year. This is a significant achievement, as they started their research work in their final year at university, alongside the dental studies”, said Prof. Dr. Gábor Gerber, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Semmelweis University, who leads CTM’s Dentistry Group jointly with Prof. Dr. János Vág and Prof. Dr. Gábor Varga. The group leaders' work is supported by several scientific methodology supervisors, while Bence Szabó assists as a statistician.
The Dentistry Group's researches are diverse, covering all areas of dentistry. Their topics include maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, temporomandibular disorders, and prosthodontics. “I am delighted to say that several of our students have already presented their findings at international conferences. This shows that our team is very enthusiastic. It is also gratifying that many of our supervisors are young. This shows that a new generation is emerging at the Faculty of Dentistry, and its members are keen to take on such tasks. We see that a kind of positive competition has emerged among our colleagues, where everyone encourages and helps each other to move forward. This has a stimulating effect on everyone.”
The Dentistry Group was also positively influenced by the fact that an exceptionally large number of students obtained their PhD degrees this spring. Seven of them defended their theses at the same time, all with excellent results, which was a great motivation for everyone. The enthusiasm of the first-year students is also evident in the fact that some of them will soon join the CTM program as methodological experts.
