She was originally interested in gnathology but was attracted by implant prosthetics and chose it as her PhD topic. She has already completed two meta-analyses on this subject, and her clinical research is currently ongoing. In September, Xinyi Qian was named the best second-year accelerator of the month.

Xinyi Qian is a second-year PhD student at Semmelweis University's Faculty of Dentistry. She engaged in the work of the Center for Translational Medicine in the second year of her residency training. Previously she had helped in the Summer School Program for Chinese students and was also involved in the work of the Centre for Translational Medicine as an international coordinator alongside her PhD, helping the center to recruit Chinese students. “The scientific path is attractive to me, it's great that I could start an academic career along with my residency training. I applied to the Department of Prosthodontics, where it is a prerequisite for residency training to do translational medicine.”

Dr. Qian also works as a dentist at the clinic and conducts practice sessions. Her research focuses on implant prosthodontics and the examination of prosthetics made for implants. Her team has conducted literature research and they are preparing two meta-analyses on the topic. One of them is currently undergoing the peer review process before publication.

"We also have a clinical trial on implant prosthodontics in progress, which we expect to complete next year. Our main focus is in the anterior region, where the soft tissue barrier is not only important for the long-term survival of the implant-prosthodontics, but crucial for the aesthetics as well. The question is whether we can shape and maintain this, using digital technology as effectively as traditional methods. So far we have observed that the direct impression technique might not be as accurate, but the indirect one could be potentially good. We don't have significant results yet, but it might be even better than the traditional method.”

Dr. Qian chose her PhD topic by chance, she was originally interested in gnathology. However, her supervisor had many projects in the implant prosthetics field, and Dr. Qian became more interested in that direction. She would also like to continue her work on gnathology and currently conducts practical sessions on the subject. After she completes her exams, she intends to work at the clinic as a gnathology specialist as well.
