MARVEL registry

The CTO registry is a prospective and retrospective study designed to collect data on the clinical, angiographic, and procedural, long-term follow-up of patients who have undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with chronic total occlusion (CTO).

Patients who have undergone percutaneous coronary intervention having been diagnosed with clinically symptomatic stable angina pectoris or heart failure and was diagnosed with at least one chronic full coronary occlusion on the basis of angiography will be included in our study.

The percutaneous coronary intervention of chronic total coronary artery obstruction has undergone rapid development over the past decade, resulting in a significant improvement in the success rate of dedicated CTO centers with a low complication rate. A successful CTO PCI helps patients to achieve significant improvement in well-selected cases, while opening the occlusion remains the biggest challenge for CTO revascularization. Due to the large number of patients with angina complaints or with symptoms of heart failure, there is an increasing need for percutaneous revascularization of chronic total coronary artery obstruction, which requires the establishment of several dedicated CTO centers in Hungary as well.

With the help of a database obtained through systematic data collection, we would investigate these special interventions in Hungary, both in terms of outcome (technical and procedural success) and clinical safety (revascularization, repeated revascularization, and severe adverse cardiovascular complications [all cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, procedural myocardial infarction, stroke, coronary surgery dependent and independent event] rate). Our further research objectives include the recruitment of additional centers and the development of an appropriate referral system based on domestic indicators to further optimize the care of this particular patient group.
