She is a great expert in pharmacovigilance, and she always attends CTM group meetings, providing a lot of support to the Cardiology, Sport & Space Science Group. In March, Anikó Görbe was named Supervisor of the Month (Year-1) at the Centre for Translational Medicine.
Anikó Görbe is Deputy Director of Operations at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, Semmelweis University, and she joined the CTM as a supervisor this academic year. „I was delighted to have this opportunity, and I am pleased to participate in the program. Although I am a medical doctor, I am involved in classical preclinical research, and I work mainly in the field of myocardial research. So far, I have had Ph.D. students who have conducted preclinical research related to this topic. Previously, we did not prepare meta-analyses, but we need them for our work. This gave me the idea to join CTM. Another reason for joining was that my current Ph.D. student was an undergraduate student in our cardiometabolic research group. She wants to become a cardiologist and take on hospital duties alongside her research.”
Dr. Görbe's Ph.D. student is Dr. Sevda Aliyeva, who investigates how existing treatments can be further optimized to improve cardiometabolic health. “Our first project is a systematic review and meta-analysis investigating the effect of MAO-A and MAO-B inhibition on cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes in animal models. “This is an interesting question because these drugs have been developed to treat major depressive disorder and Parkinson's disease, but they may also be useful for other conditions. Our research is progressing well. We already have the data extracts on this topic, and Dr. Sevda has just started writing the manuscript. Our results suggest that the drugs under investigation may also be effective in the treatment of heart failure. Even though our results relate to preclinical studies, they are indirectly connected to the clinical field, as they will be followed up by clinical research.”
As a supervisor, Dr. Görbe always participates in the weekly group meetings of the CTM and also hosts project meetings with her co-supervisor Dr. Péter Ferdinandy. In addition to Dr. Sevda, she has an another Ph.D. student, who is involved as a consultant in the preparation of Dr. Sevda's meta-analysis and with whom she also has meetings. Dr. Bennet Weber is about to obtain his Ph.D. degree and plans to become involved in the CTM program as a supervisor.
