The Dentistry Group has an outstandingly large number of members, and four out of sixteen are MD-PH.D. students. The members are all very active and making great progress with their research, thanks to the commitment of the group leaders, supervisors, and methodological experts. In February, this group was named Group of the Month.

The Dentistry Group (Year-1), led by Prof. Dr. Gábor Gerber, Prof. Gábor Varga, and Prof. Dr. János Vág, has the largest number of students who are still undergraduate students and are also pursuing their Ph.D. studies. This shows the commitment of dentists to translational medicine. The students of the group are not only dental researchers but excellent clinicians. “The students' research topics are varied, from restorative dentistry and endodontics to maxillofacial surgery. For example, we have a student investigating the accuracy of fixed dentures and their effect on bearing time. We also have a student researching how to make disinfection in root canal treatment more effective. This is a crucial question because root canal treatment often has an unsuccessful outcome. Another student is evaluating the value of digital technologies in orthognathic surgery. In his project, he investigates the effectiveness of patient-specific implants over splints in orthognathic surgery. The variety of topics makes our work exciting,” says János Vág.

The professor points out that different dentistry specialists collaborate in their daily work and have insight into each other's fields, so that they can provide valuable input to each other's research. He also highlights that the work of the students is supported by Xinyi Qian, who is not only a scientific methodology supervisor but also a third-year Ph.D. student as a dentist. She is always present at every meeting and assists both students and supervisors.
