According to the literature, early cholecystectomy is necessary to avoid complications related to gallstones after an initial episode of acute biliary pancreatitis (ABP). In the EMILY prospective, randomized controlled multicentre trial, the planned target is to investigate that the risk of biliary events will not be increased in delayed cholecystectomy compared to early cholecystectomy if endoscopic sphincterotomy is performed previously.
