PANDoRA
PANDoRA – The PANcreatic Disease ReseArch consortium
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the European Union and the United States, with a five-year survival rate of less than 10%. The aim of the PANDoRA consortium is to create a large bio- and database bank for the study of genetic variants and biological markers involved in the risk and outcome of pancreatic cancer.
The main objective of the consortium is to investigate risk factors that influence the development and progression of the disease and the outcome of treatment of pancreatic cancer patients, such as:
- new genetic risk factors for pancreatic cancer
- new genetic factors affecting the survival of pancreatic cancer patients
- non-genetic biomarkers of pancreatic cancer risk and survival, such as changes in telomere length and mitochondrial copy number
- genetic polymorphisms, gene expression and methylation level changes.
