OPMD Registry
The relatively high incidence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in Hungary and the various oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) pose a serious diagnostic and therapeutic difficulty for clinicians. Several factors have been linked to oral epithelial dysplasia and cancer formation but the exact mechanisms and stages of OSCC development are still not completely understood. New data is emerging regarding the early diagnosis of cancerous transformation, suggesting that proteomic and nuclear acid analysis of the saliva or oral cytological samples could be a useful tool in early diagnosis and risk analysis. As for the clinical diagnosis of the aforementioned OPMS are challenging we are in desire need of reliable diagnostic tools that can forecast malignant transformation. The aim of this registry is to determine diagnostic and prognostic markers of malignant transformation in OSCC in order to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment.
